Goldenstate Warriors…Always Putting Up a Fight
In 1946, the Goldenstate Warriors got their start in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as the Philadelphia Warriors. In 1962 they moved to San Francisco, California, although they did not get the name Goldenstate until 1971. The new name made them the only team in the league that does not mention the name of their city or state in their team name.
In Philadelphia the team managed to win two championships, once as part of the Basketball Association of America and once as a member of the National Basketball Association (NBA). They also claimed three conference titles and three division titles in that time.
Between 1962 and 1971 the team was known as the San Francisco Warriors. They didn’t take home any championships or titles during this time. However, after changing their name to the Goldenstate Warriors, they have won four division titles, three conference titles, and an NBA Championship. In fact, between 1971 and 1977 they made it to the playoffs every year but one.
The Oracle Arena in Oakland has been home to the Warriors since 1966 except for one year in the 1990s while the building went through renovations. As one of three venues in California, the arena not only has the most seating, but also is the oldest still in use by the NBA.
Of course, the Goldenstate Warriors are active in their community. When they’re not practicing or at a game, the team is often found out in the community, working to brighten the lives of the area’s disadvantaged citizens.
The Warrior Foundation is run by the team and provides contributions and donations to other causes to enrich the lives of area children, youth, and their families. Aside from the Warriors Foundation, they also support reading and fitness programs and try to help teach children healthy lifestyles and how to achieve greatness in school and in life.
For the last twenty-five years, the Goldenstate Warriors have been blessed with the presence of the Warrior girls at every home game. These talented and beautiful women add to the entertainment and fun with their varied and exciting dance routines and shows.
Aside from the Warrior Girls, the team also has a group of very talented and ambitious kids called the Jr. Jams who perform hip hop routines at many weekend games. Like the Warrior girls, the Jr. Jams can also be found at community events.
A Goldenstate Warriors game is an exciting experience indeed. The games are great to watch, and the entertainment of the dance teams makes it worth the trip.
